Absolute Must See Movie- Temple Grandin!

My husband has Aspergers like Temple Grandin. We have watched the movie several times now. He sees himself in her and that helps him understand himself better. Not all aspies are as self aware as Ms Grandin. Movies like Mozart and the Whale or Snowcake or anyother movie that has Aspergers in it have helped him understand how he impacts others with his quirks and how others have impacts on him. Very cool that there are now movies he can identify with. Thats a new experience for him and he feels less alone and isolated

Taping this show tonite...

I HIGHLY recommend her books, especially "Animals Make Us Human"...she gets indepth about the major animals in our lives (dogs, cats, horses, cows, pigs and chickens) and how her studies have helped so much in more humane dealings with them. Reminding me of why I started having chickens in the first place, the treatment of laying hens is deplorable, even though it may be better in some places.

She is an amazing woman for sure!

An amazing woman! I have all her books except the one on unwritten rules of social relationships. Thee aren't many people in the world that I feel deserve the title of "hero", but she is definitely one. My interest in keeping a backyard flock of chickens actually arose after reading her work.

I totally get the "thinking in pictures" as I do the same exact thing. My thoughts and memories are played out like a movie in my head. My partner and I geocache, and she is always amazed that I can remember what items we traded for in which caches, what the cache looked like, the weather that day, the trail it was on, etc. This is after 5 years of caching and almost 1800 caches. The scenes in the movie where they show how her mind visualizes, mentally moving , flipping inverting an object to see how it will "work" into a situation, is just how I visualize as well. I think I have some Aspberger traits for sure. Her books have helped me understand a lot of things and accept a lot of things about myself that had always puzzled me before.

She was a TA for a class I took on animal buildings at the University of Illinois. I learned a lot from her! She also took the time to explain how it felt to be autistic. Really an amazing woman. I just wish I had a way of watching the movie.
