Hi,
I have 10 chickens eggs that were due to hatch yesterday. However, we had to leave on a trip and were going to take the eggs with us to our family’s house so they could watch the chicks hatch. This means the incubator with all the eggs would have to be in the car for 3 hours. I didn’t want to open the incubator to put padding between the eggs because the incubator was in lockdown at day 21 and I didn’t want the chicks to get shrink wrapped. I put a lot of padding under the incubator to cushion any bumps on the road. The eggs unfortunately rolled around a lot in the car and I realized a few of them were cracked from hitting each other and there was a little bit blood coming from the cracks. I’m wondering if any of them are going to hatch because of the cracks and because they rolled around so much in the car. Currently it’s day 22 and I haven’t heard any chirping from the eggs, but our last batch hatched a few days late. Also wondering how altitude would affect the hatching. The eggs were originally incubated at about 6000 ft above sea level and are now at about 7000 ft. Any idea on how they are going to turn out?

Hmmm, how much blood was coming out of them? Can u post pictures? More than likely its not going to be a good hatch:
  • Cracked shells means a major chance of shrink wrapped chixks
  • Blood is never a good sign
  • Day 22 not chirps, this can happen but all the movement might have messed them up.

It's never a good idea to move and incubator full of eggs just to watch thwm hatch.

I have a wifi camera that I use, I also have it set up so I can live stream the hatches. That would be a better way to watch them from afar.

We had move them because we would be gone when the chicks hatched and needed our family to watch them once they were hatched.

Here are some pictures. The blood you can see on the egg is already dried.

2 out of the 10 eggs that were in lockdown hatched! I was hoping more would hatch, but it’s better than nothing, especially since they were juggled around so much. It also looked like another chick pipped but died:( The 2 chicks that hatched are doing well and are over a week old now.
