How to acclimate to no heat using a brooder plate?
When they were moved from the baby brooder to the larger one in the shed, someone forgot to turn the brooder back on. I noticed and corrected that. They just mainly huddled in a corner at night instead of using the plate so last night I thought I would just turn it off. That's when I noticed I had accidentally turned it to heater mode some weeks ago (surprised I didn't cook them). Anyway, they protested and I turned it on correctly to brooder. This morning they were all standing on it and figuring they'd be fine for the day, I turned it off. Checking them after work, they were indeed fine. I can't stay up late to turn it on later at night or get up even earlier than I do to turn it off.
They are 3.5 wks (somewhat mostly feathered-downy around the neck), they say 73F tonight. I'm tempted to just not turn it back on.
