When we did the weekly candle of all my eggs in the incubator, we realized by the air sacs that most of the eggs were old duds, a scammer must have gotten me when I traded my rooster for hatching eggs.

DH had pity on my little broken chicken heart (my egg total in the incubator went from 28 to 11) and let me order some chicks. I had never ordered chicks, I assumed it would be a bit before I got them and that maybe they wouldn't have chicks at all available this time of the year, and...got the e-mail today, they are shipping from Welp on Wednesday! So I have 10 California White, 10 Ameraucana, and 5 assorted cochin bantams to add some variety to my population of cochin bantams on their way come Wednesday! This is going to be an active winter in the mudroom for sure!

Ha!
Dealing with the same "problem"!

The hatchery I ordered from was out of stock,
then got an email that they would indeed be shipping me
my new RIR's!!! in a week! AAAAAHHHHH!!!!

Mud room in complete chaos after a remodel, gotta start
making room for the babies!!!! And just ordered a new brooder
setup! EXPRESS SHIPPING!!!!!

Isn't it a lovely problem to have though? My mud room is NOT ready either, I have to go digging through my husbands work area and locate my bins, my lights, my cords, my feeders, my waterers, my, heck, my EVERYTHING! I have to move the shelf I put in the corner to hold all the grape jelly I made last month, goodness, I have a lot to do! Why am I still readying BYC?

Mine are also coming from Welp on Wednesday! We will have hatching buddies.

I got the old chicken house all cleaned out on Saturday and the brooder is mostly ready. It was a HUGE job (The last batch of chickens left a big mess) and I ended up getting a bad cough from it (I know, I should have used a dust mask. I will remember next time!) but I am glad to have it done.

Our chickies are being moved from the incubator into the hatching trays today, (Day 19). The kids (5 and 6) were so impressed when I showed them how far they will be coming on a map. We ordered 15 assorted brown layers and 5 black standard cochin, along with my FIL's order.

I thought that Welp didn't let you order bantams along with regular size birds? I will have to go check that out because I would like to get some in the Spring if I can find an order to tag along on.

They processed my order just fine, so maybe they changed it! Yay chicken buddies, we can keep each other company here while we wait for our babies! I wonder if we will get them on the same day despite the different states?

Thursday! They ship Thursday, and I have to go down to our rural PO and get them!
Our new brooder setup is "supposed" to be here on Wed. Whew! or AAAHHHH!!!

I know I can keep em in a box and I "think" I can find a light....
Our PO is so backwoods, they only come up the mountain when they feel like it,
they make us meet them at the road even though you can see our office from
the Hwy. Man, I hope they don't give me problems!

Or else there is gonna be a MAD MAMMA HEN on their tail!!

So glad I got some mammas in the same situation!
Looks like we are going to be using the area in front of the
door in the mudroom!! too many crates of wood/tools/paint
in the usual area! Plus I gotta get some new fence put up
before my horses take through the wilderness!

Lovin the farmin!

woohoo! I have my very first chicks arriving next week! I've gotten a heat lamp and red bulb, now I need to get the big plastic tub ready. I plan on keeping it the far end of the kitchen at first, and them move them down stairs to the basement laundry area. Mixed bantam cochins and 2 leghorn pullets. I can't wait!!!!

Post a pic when you get them! Yours are supposed to arrive this week, right? What breed(s) are you getting again?

If we get to see your pictures, maybe my own wait till next week won't also feel so looooong.
