Ack! What a day! Beak injuries due to dogs.

Their beak is made of keratin and will continue to grow. As long as they can still eat and drink fine it should be ok. There is a product called steri-tape that is like a breathable medical tape that can be cut to size (it is sometimes used to help keep skin together after stitches are taken out) that might help if the split beak needs a bit of support.

Oh- I just found this article. Apparently you can glue it?

Best of luck. Let us know how it goes.

I read that yesterday, but, there’s no beak part to glue it to. I mean the part that is broke off is gone. The more I’ve looked at her, it’s less of the beak than I “imagined” it to be. Actually, now I’m more concerned about the girls with the puncture wounds on their beaks. I mean, they obviously were attacked by tooth. The one with the beak partially torn off might have done it in the scuffle. She’s bigger than the other girls. When I originally looked into the run, I noticed one of her tail feathers over in the corner. I am thinking she jumped and hurt herself.
However, all of them are acting as if nothing happened. I got 4 eggs today. Crazy - as I thought they would stop laying due to the trauma.

I will try to get some pics tomorrow. They all have blue Kote on them though.

Chickens are crazy tough actually! Just try to keep wounds clean. Neosporin works wonders (I don't use off brand or anything with pain relief in it, just the regular stuff) People also rave about vetericyn and blu kote but I use peroxide, neosporin, and peroxide and they all work well too! As long as they can eat and drink and breathe they will be just fine. I wouldn't worry too much.
Definitely post pictures.. but for the most part I believe they will heal on their own since they seem to be doing normal chicken things despite their ordeal!

They seem to be. The one with the top beak split, I was worried about and took her off to the side with me to see if she would eat. But, I don’t think she wanted to while I was holding her. Later I took a piece of sliced turkey out and she gobbled that up. I will watch this morning to see how she does with food.

Really double crazy tough. I had one attacked by a juvenile bald eagle. A rip through skin to flesh on her back and another one, quite bad, above her vent plus several others just skin lacerations. My vet office employs two avian vets. One of them was able to suture her up and she was just fine. That vet, best resource I have found, except BYC of course. somewhat expensive but she is a favorite of mine.

Eek. Sounds like that would definitely require a trip to the vet. My 4 had minor injuries compared to what you are describing. How long ago did that happen?

I have an EE hen who lost the entire top mandible of her beak and she's fine. I'm glad they all seem to be acting fine!

Glad to hear she is fine. What did you do to help her along? I hope nothing like this ever happens again, but just in case, I should be prepared.

I do believe that they are tough after seeing and reading through some worse attacks that chickens survived. I’m amazed.

I used some Neosporin, but her beak mostly healed on its own. However, eating was hard for her at first, so I had to wet down all of her food for a long time until she got the hang of it because her beak was so tender. Now she can eat dry food again.

@HfgChicken I tried to get some pics, but the 3 IBs wouldn’t stay still enough as they think I’m always handing out treats. The EE didn’t want to bother with me. Gave me the stink eye. :gig

They all look well enough eating, scratching, and drinking. I didn’t want to hassle them too much today so let them be doing their chicken thang. ;)
