Adams Dip/Dead Chicken! Help!

Warning! I used the Adams Flea/tick dip on my flock last night for mites. I used it as directed-1 Tbl per gal and a little less in consecutive buckets. Went into the coop this morning and found a dead bird. The rest aren't looking so good. They are laying around. Hope I didn't kill them all! Any advice?

I use Flea/Tick mist, been using it for 4 years now and nothing wrong has happened. Sorry about the loss of your bird. Did it have any "special" directions on it? Or did the chickens get to it?

Advice anyone? Is there something I should do now? I read many posts about using this. No one mentioned any ill side effects. I fear for the rest of my flock.

No I dipped them. I also bought the spray but figured I'd dip first then follow up with the spray in a week or so. I followed the directions on the bottle which was per a post here at BYC. Thought I'd wipe those mites out. I might wipe out my whole flock!

i've never heard of using the dip on chickens. It is poison and too much will kill anything. i think even the spray is pretty pungent. When i have a bad case of mites, i will give the chicken a lukewarm bath with just a couple drops of flea shampoo in it, then do several rinses. But my routine is a few drops of ivermectin on the back of the neck (number of drops based on size of chicken), then use poultry dust on their body - carefully avoiding eyes and face.

Were it me, i would bring the chickens in one by one, worst cases first, and soak them in lukewarm to warm water to rinse the poison off. Then blow dry them before putting them back out (low setting, careful to keep your hand there to make sure it's not too hot. Then maybe some vitamins in the water and nutritious treats to bolster them - like mashed hard boiled eggs.

There are a number of posts from people who use Adams with good results. I haven't read any negative post about it. I won't use it anymore.

Well, i am not an expert by any means. i just go by what works for me. And it seems suspicious that you have a casualty and sick birds after using it.

I'm sorry about your bird! I'm no expert either, but I purchased diatomaceous earth with great results and no ill effect on them. I add it to their feed also. I dust them with it and also shake it around the coop when I put fresh shavings! I would definately get them rinsed asap and hopefully get enough of that off their skin so they can recoup! Keep us updated!

I'd never dip them in the evening but in the middle of a good, hot day. They can easily get chilled. You may have pushed an already weakend one over the edge.

I dipped them about 7:00 last night. We are in the middle of a heat wave here so I figured they would stay plenty warm. It was 90+ degrees here. I was worried it would be too hot!
