Good morning!

We set 10 eggs under our Broody this past Friday night. About 36-40 hours again at this point. We ordered a mix that could include silkies but none came. I just received a message that someone local (well, a couple hours drive) has 2 which is exactly what we wanted. Well, 9 yr old son REALLY wants! Lol

Question:
If I do not add these eggs until 48 hrs after setting the others, is this a recipe for disaster? If it's not, we need to leave quick, if it will be I need to message the seller quick out of respect. No time for consideration at this point🤦

Thoughts? Experience?

Thank you!

Pending on your broody. Will she sit an extra 3 plus days. Mine often do but you may have a chance where she doesn't then your eggs will need another source of heat until they hatch.

No incubator.

My last broody sat 72 hrs waiting for her eggs to hatch. I had to move the water and food super close to her to feed the chicks that had hatched. But this is a new broody and her first hatch.

If you try it, mark the eggs with the date before setting them. That way you'll know which are late arrivals and which may be duds (if there are any). Watch her closely when the others hatch. If she stays on them great, but if not, have an incubator on standby.

We will be very hands on with this hatch because currently 2 bantams were sent in our mix and 8 full sized. This would make 4 bantams. Fortunately, I am home all day and check/count chicks every hour or more as it is. Neurotic,I know🙄

So my day did NOT go as planned. The original person I was driving to for the 2 silkie eggs did not message back (and I was halfway into a 3 hr drive!) and I was going to turn around. I checked his craigslist listing for an address when I came across newly listed silkie ad that was a few minutes closer. She was there and I headed that way. Long story short, after a fun time for my son and I petting all the animals and seeing some cool birds we left with 8 Silkie eggs, 4 Serama eggs, 1 Crested Pekin duck egg and a Silkie chick! And she refused to take any payment!!!

How many eggs can go under an Australorp? I now have 22 fertilized eggs and I need to decide what to keep and what to give away. I found homes for 3 already so here is what I have to choose from:
7 Silkie
4 Serama
3 Dominiques
3 Crested Cream Legbar
2 Mille Fleur D'uccle (?)

I will try to find a duck experienced home for the Crested Pekin.

Thoughts??

Edit: I am unfamiliar with all of these breeds. My flock currently has 1 BO, 2 Australorps, 2 EE and 2 smallish barnyard mixes.
