I have a pen full of roosters that i am growing out until i figure out who to keep they are 4 months old.. I also have another rooster who is about 6 weeks ahead of them in age (from a different hatch) and he is currently in jail for being a troublemaker. He is aggressive and side steps up to the wire when i go and talk to him, he runs at me when open the door to feed him. He may just
be frustrated cause he sees his brother roo out with the hens every day.

I was wondering if it would cool him down by putting him into the batchelor pad with the other guys, or whether it would be a total disaster with him either trying to take over as the boss, or feeling defensive and getting mad, and if it was a disaster how i would get him out again.

The batchelor pad is relatively peaceful right now. Some of the guys in there are larger but some are quite small even though same breed and age.

Honestly he scares me, and it is a pain because he is the best looker of the bunch...

The best looking ones are always a pain aren't they :). Sounds like he is gonna cause trouble if he goes in with the other Roos. Just my opinion but it might be a bad ending if he gets put in their especially since he already has a bad attitude!

Ahh.. you are telling my what my own inside feeling is telling me.. I was hoping someone might say sure go ahead it will be OK..

but I really don't think it will.

well he will make a nice dinner if he doesn't shape up, he's really chunky..

here is his pic.. see what i mean!

I've had him on craigslist for weeks. He is a black copper marans. His color is a little light and uneven but he is nice and broad and has a great tail shape for a marans. He has decent leg feathering but not street sweepers.. I probably won't eat him unless totally necessary. My problem is that i want chicks from him with my Marans hens before he leaves.. but i just don't know if i trust him to be nice to them..

Arrrgh... what to do!!

I have a Rooster, Little Dude, that I hatched from the egg (mom abandoned him) and was perfectly fine until he realized he was a "rooster". His mom was a silkie and dad was a buff orpington and he is BEAUTIFUL. He became aggressive to the hens to the point that they wouldn't come out of the coop. He then began mating with any stick he could find along with our duck…weird I know. He also did the "dance" thing with me. So I created a small pen and hutch right next to the main chicken run. Every time he danced at me I would pick him up and carry him around while I fed and cared for the hens. We did this for about 2 months. After he seemed to have calmed down I let him back in and all is well (so far). When he acts up I immediately swoop him up and carry him around. I don't know if it's true but I feel like I am letting him know who's boss. I also leash trained a former rooster years ago for the same reasons. I feel like they understand these things. Some would say they are mindless and don't have a clue but I disagree.

I am relatively new to keeping chickens but I am a quick learner.. and i am getting baptism by fire here.. I counted and I have 19-20 roos right now which for me is a big deal. I went to his pen this weekend determined to show I was the head rooster, I put my gloves and long sleeved and then opened his pen door. So he stayed in the back and wouldn't come near me!!! so later I went to feed him, no gloves or long sleeves and the little S****t rushed me and knocked the food bowl out of my hand trying to get to me, Problem is that his pen is not one i can stand up in so groveling in the pen with a maniac rooster kinda freaks me out...... Maybe I should put my diving mask on LOL!!!!!! now that would be the funniest sight in the world..

I have a really nice looking Blue Copper that I am bringing along as a keeper, he is about 5 weeks old and quite big already.. I plan to pick that boy up every day while he is small so this doesn't happen again..

It sounds like he might make a nice meal. My only other suggestion would be to put a harness on him along with a leash. With my guy once he realized the power I had over him him it totally put him in his place and all I had to do was leave the harness on him and that was enough. Plus he won't be able to fly up at you when you come into his pen. Good luck.
