We reciently have 6 hens. Four of them are about 10 months old. The other two are 3 months old. We are thinking of adding a Polish/Silkie to our flock. She is also 3 months old. Would this be a smart move? Our other breeds are EE, RIR, New Hampshire Red,Australorp, Red Star. The youngest two are Red Star and EE. Thanks for your help.

When raised together from chicks Polish and silkies can generally do well in mixed flocks. Introduction to an established flock can be difficult because of their smaller size, gentle temperament, and obscured vision.

When I introduce any new kids to the flock I put them in a wire cage so others can see the "newbies" for two weeks at the most,I feed them together an let them roost at night together, but put in cage in the morning.
I have not had a Single problem with any breed getting along with another.
My parents call me "chicken whisperer".
Good luck!
Hope it helps!

So you have added singles and have had no problem? The Polish/Silkie is 12wks old so it wouldn't be a baby chick which is why I am thinking about it...! In the past I have done like you said, put in a wire cage etc for a while then set them free I just have never added a single one to the mix, the last time I did this it was two.

Yes indeed. I have added one 9 month old to them.
I feed them treats together so they All feel Happy together, and not be stressed introducing a newbie to them.
