I have 2 Mottled Java and we have an opportunity to get a Speckled Sussex. Our girls are fairly docile, though I've never seen them with other chickens but they were both getting picked on at the farm where they lived, plus one of them is much smaller and has a scissor beak.
Everything I've read about Speckled Sussex says they are also very docile. I understand that it is unwise to introduce one single bird into an existing flock however, would this be more likely to be successful because a) they are both docile breeds and b) there are only 2 of them together now?
If not a good idea, I'll stick to the original plan of adding 2 more birds probably next spring.
Thanks!
