Hi everyone!
About a month ago I adopted 2 adult female Muscovy ducks from a duck rescue here in Texas. I'm obsessed with them. I now have the very exciting opportunity to add 2 adult hens to my tiny flock, both actually from the same duck rescue. One of the chickens has a shattered leg šŸ˜ but has been taken to the vet who said she's actually not in pain with it and can still get around fine on her one leg so they recommend to let it heal as is. I'm adopting her because she cannot safely free range there anymore because of other chickens attacking her. She is coming with her sister who she is bonded to.
So with that provided, I'm wondering if anyone can advise me on how to accommodate the chickens in my duck coop and run.
I have a coop built from the bottom of our kids' play set, and it is open to the 360Ā° protected large run. The run actually has hardware cloth along the entire floor as well, with layers of oak leaves on top, and some grassy areas. I know that inhibits chicken scratching but they will be let out everyday to free range the yard. Is that ok?
I have a poorly constructed šŸ˜‚ (but does the job!!) nest box for the ducks, and they sleep there together at night.
Do chicken nest boxes need to be raised? And they need a roost, yes?
Any and all advice is so appreciated! I am so so excited for this next addition!

I think your coop is cool!
Do chicken nest boxes need to be raised?
No, not necessarily but they do prefer it to be raised.
And they need a roost, yes?
Correct!
I know that inhibits chicken scratching but they will be let out everyday to free range the yard. Is that ok?
I think so, but do you have a place for them to take dust baths?

It probably would, but fine Sand and Dry Dirt is the key to a good duct bath for your flock. Fine sand mixed with some dry dirt makes a great base on which to build your chicken runs dust bath.
Thank you for your help. I've given them a separate kiddie pool with dirt/sand/diatomaceous earth
