I've seen that a lot of people add hay to keep their chickens comfortable in the winter. I'm using the deep litter method. Should I still add hay or are the chickens going to be fine with the wood shavings? The shavings are pretty deep 6" - 12". The coop is insulated and I'm adding even more ventilation this weekend. I'm just trying to do everything I can to keep them comfortable.

I would not add hay over/with my pine shavings litter. Hay holds moisture, and you don't want that, especially during winter. I do add food-grade diatomaceous earth to my litter though to keep it dry.
