How does this look
I assume the entire crate is under a roof and is safe from rain. Can you turn the black box on its side? That way the chicks can come out and wander to the edges of the crate and jump on top of the box.
If they stick their heads out of the edges of the crate, they may get pecked but as long as no blood is drawn, they should be okay and will learn to avoid the big girls.

How big is your current coop? It doesn't look like it will be large enough for 14 full sized chickens. Are you planning on expanding it?
 
Can you take the container out and put some hardware cloth in the bottom with maybe some hay or pine shavings. If the water and feed are getting shavings in them, you can always get a gallon feeder and waterer you can hang.
