adding new color to a breed

If you are planning the color in Ameraucanas, I think you will probably get some heat from the Ameraucana people saying that since it isnt a "regcognized" color, then they would be Easter eggers and its true that they would be unless you could get them to breed true for Blue Eggs.

But any if I were wanting to do it I would probably start with Spangle Russian orloffs to add the color since they are close in type to Ameraucanas. And use Wheaten or BBRed Ameraucanas if you can find them to breed the Orloffs to. Then juggle the recessive mottling and the columbian pattern back and forth.

kinda sad that someone would get upset.......new color has to come from somewhere, and think of the new colors in some of the other breeds that came from mixes.but it would be quite a challenge but what beautiful birds those would be.thanks for the input!

Actually there is. There are Millie Fleur Araucanas. You have to consider, Araucanas are pretty rare and not talked of often, so most people aren't even aware of the colors they come in. They don't have many recognized ones at all, but there are quite a few unrecognized colors.

Who has those? I have never seen a pic.that would be awesome!

Lavenders aren't recognized and I don't see anyone getting flack about it.

If you want to make a "jubilee" or "speckled" ameraucana have at it. Just make sure the end result is a bird with slate legs, lays a blue egg, has a muff and beard and breeds true.

There is no such thing as a BBR ameraucana, there are wheaten. They are two different colors.

I have heard of some controversy on here before about the lavs. But like you said, if a person arrives at a standard for a certain breed, but with a new color, it should be able to be considered to be that breed regardless of what had went into making it.

And yes I know BBRed and Wheaten are two different colors but their are Silver Duckwing Amerucanas which is the Silver version of BBRed so BBReds would be possible by just breeding the gold gene into Silvers but crossing Wheatens and Silvers and breeding back towards the gold gened Duckwing patterned
birds.

Was there a problem w the color or just not the color you wanted to work with? I have heard the lav silkie have sight problems.
