2 of his 4 kids ended up being boys though and I still have them plus his daughters as well as my bantam Cochin cockerel.

I had to put 2 birds down this year, & 2 died.I understand! I started out with 9 about 5 years ago but one died at a week old so I don’t really count it. Anyway, I had 8 for years and then added 5 more pullets last year then I bought an incubator and hatched 9 last November (8 ended up boys) then I added 9 more chicks this spring (one boy in that group) and then also hatched one of the original boy’s chicks this July from a broody hen. Oh and I also hatched quail in June too. So chicken math totally hit me all within like a year or year and a half
added 2 budgies in March too LOL but I have practiced subtraction too since I also sadly lost some birds in between, had to put a couple down, and gave some of the boys away. I lost my rooster two weeks after his chicks hatched

Awww I’m sorry!I had to put 2 birds down this year, & 2 died.
I believe we started out with 4 barred rocks, 4 leghorns, 2 D'uccles, 5 RIRs.
We still have the D'uccle ladies, who are turning 6 next year.
Yes I was very glad I let the broody hatch!!!At least you still have some of his children.
Seems like alot of us had it rough.Awww I’m sorry!2 of mine got Mareks and had to be put down about a month apart this spring and then my rooster I think died of heat stroke but I’m not sure ?? I also had two of the chicks get taken when I moved them outside. They were both roosters but still sad. One was a favorite BR I wanted to keep.
I lost my BR hen last summer to heat too
she was old though. Lost a couple quail this year too. It was a rough start
oh and I also lost 3 of my older girls in one night to a predator.
rough for sure. Lots of loss. But it got better with all the chicks and everything.
I started with 2 Barred Rocks (one was the one I lost at a week old), 3 Buff Orpingtons (they gave me an extra one), 2 Black Australorps, and 2 Easter Eggers. I only have 1 BO, 1 BA, and 1 EE left of the older girls.I had 2 each but 3 were the ones taken! I wanted to hatch the EEs eggs too
Anyway the ones left turn 5 end of October.
That's nice.Yes I was very glad I let the broody hatch!!!![]()
