Adopted Homers... will they stay?

Also... since I'm not convinced that these birds are homers (and we'd really like to get homers for bird training), can anybody help me find some homers that I can buy? I have NO clue where to start looking. We're located in southeastern PA. Hoping there's somewhere close by?? Thanks in advance!

Start by looking on Craig's List. I just did and found a number of pigeons in my area. Also on the bottom of listing, there are listing that are further from local area. Some I would have to travel 100 miles. :) I would just consider it a nice friendly Sunday outing. It would have to be a pigeon that I REALLY WANTED BAD, TO DO THAT MUCH TRAVEL. :th
I used to see a person that used to list his pigeons in the Chicago listing, although he did state he was from Pa. He would ship his pigeons. (kind of costly in my opinion for freight/postage) Did not see his listing at this time. There was one from Oregon. Thats 2500 miles away. This may not be PRIME TIME , for pigeon sales.:idunno
I also joined this pigeon forum. It is similar to BYC, but only pigeons. Consider signing up and placing you requests there. You may find what you are looking for, just a short distance from you.

Try this resource. This site was put together by a fancier I think down in FL, and he assembled a collection of breeders by state and by breed. Not sure how old it is, but it's worth a try, and you can search it by state. I think the link I sent you is already set to PA breeders.

Hello,
Does anyone know if I raised a few of a large dove breed with a few of a small homing pigeon breed if the doves would stay around after release if the homers and doves made a flock then the homers would stay but would the doves stay with the pigeons?

Not sure that the two varieties will pair up all that easily/willingly. My second flock of white pigeons were ether a poor blood line , or mixed variety. They would loft fly and return. They did not want to loft fly all that much ether. When they did, they just went onto the house roof and just parked there. In the eve they would fly back into loft. When a hawk would appear/visit, they scattered and usually some would not return. Hawk would not eat 3 at a time since multiples would not return. I never did see a hawk catch one BTW. I think they flew away like 7734 and were not able to find their way back. If you want your pigeons to keep returning, then I suggest staying with the homing variety. My second flock numbered "0" eventually.

I have never attempted what you are suggesting.

A large dove breed is only something to make you wish you had a good homing pigeon.
Homing pigeons are athletes with a linage to back it up.

"It would be akin to crossing Secretariat to a donkey."

When it comes to homing instincts most doves can not find their way back home from around the corner. Doves and homing pigeons will mate when given "NO CHOICE". You would find your doves would be bullied by your homers in a flock situation. When it came to a dove homer cross; the result would be
a hybrid bird that could almost find it's way home from around the corner.

You could give it a try every loft is different.
I personally would not allow any in my loft.

This is only my forecast of the outcome.
