Adopting an adult duck

What a cutie! X2 for what Miss Lydia and Amiga and Lugh said. Preds are very clever and very fast. Make sure she is totally safe between dawn to dusk especially. Too many stories on here that have very sad endings.
But enjoy her! I would say she is pretty young. Muscovies have SO much personality. Mine will march right up to me and stand in front of me, as if to say, ok, nice to see ya, but where are my peas??? Then give a little tail wag and wander off. And the adorable sounds they make are just too cute.

Again, not knowing where you live and the predator situation, that poultry wire isn't enough protection. A raccoon could get through that in about 20 seconds. You need galvanized steel hardware cloth, 1/4" or 1/2" in size. Nothing gets through that without wire cutters or a blowtorch, and I have yet to meet a raccoon that has access to either.

I'm pretty sure the OP is living in Hawaii, so the only predators that would need to be worried about would be domestic dogs and cats. No raccoons, fortunately.

Ooops, I lied. They have mongoose on Maui. Probably not a danger to a large Muscovy, but they'll eat eggs and small birds.
