Luikse Vechter aka Liege Fighter Thread

Pics
we have a group of 5 brahma with our large old rooster. a group of 16 mixed olive Eggers moss Eggers starlight blue and marsns were creating dark moss Eggers and the liege trio all housed separate we just let them out and was out there with them they never fought thr liege and mixed eggers were young couple months. nobody ever fought because the brahma was dominant. everyone is older now they will stand off a little bit but nothing brutal the brahma and liege stay with their groups and the mixed go between both
That was better than what I did after a week. I let them out into the garage with the flock present. Which is where there pen was so I thought they had gotten used to the sight of each other. But now I see that was too much at once.

yeah give them plenty of room to get away if they need to. I couldn't keep them in the same coop but they get along in the yard. no deadly fighting they will argue at times but the roosters usually stay away from each other

I did try it again one just the dominant of the two out in the yard. I walked her around the property and then we made our way over to the others. She walked right up to one of my middle Buckeyes who kept trying to jump her so I redirected them because I knew what was coming next. Then she trots right up to my older Buckeye who jumped her as well, but she grabbed her wing and wouldn't let go I had to pull her off.

We were done at that point. I really didn't take the stories I had heard about liege hens seriously, but now I do.

Glad yours are going smooth.

One thing I'm doing now is letting them have the backyard which is fenced and in view of the flock who has the run of the acreage, but typically stays near the house.

It's just a lot harder in winter otherwise I could be doing this consistently with them. As is they're behind hardware cloth in my garage which the flock has the run of so they are curious about each other. Not as much posturing as at the beginning.

I realize this thread has not been used in over a year, but I wonder if anyone has tried entering liege in shows in the US? What was your experience? I am planning to enter two birds in a large upcoming show in the Northeast. I rather expect to be the only one with the breed and for the judges to maybe need to do some quick googling in order to judge them. I know not being recognized they can only go up to BB but my goal is mostly to get attention for the breed. It would be neat if they were recognize here someday.
