ADOR1 Automatic Coop Door?

Mine has been working flawlessly now for a few weeks, and this past weekend was really cold. -3F at night on Sunday morning and no problems. Whew!

Three days with the AdorStore Door installed, so far so good, 20 degrees at night! They have been coming in before the door closes so I can't say they know what it is! But it is closing about 10 minutes after the "published" sunset!

Mine stalled opening up again this morning, stopped half way, started down again, stopped, up a little, down again, and stopped about a third of the way open. My concern was as it was going up and down, the hens were trying to get out, and I was afraid it would continue down on them. The funny thing is after two or three trys, it stops and I swear it beeps an SOS. Anyway, got a new 9V today, will install it tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem.

I believe we found our problem and have corrected it. After several days of it only opening half way in the mornings, my husband and I took the door off and he cleaned the runners, then when we attached it back onto the coop, we didn't tighten the screws down as tightly as we had them before. We backed them out a few turns and ran the door. It opened and closed perfectly - no stuttering or struggling sounds. That was two weeks ago and it has opened perfectly each morning and closed perfectly each evening since. I believe we had slightly warped the frame by screwing it down so tightly since it would seem the coop wall where it's attached is not quite level all the way across - one side dips slightly further forward than the other.

On a side note - for anyone who is acquainted with an engineer (like my husband) they will understand that finding this defect in the leveling is driving him crazy. He also pointed out that my mantra during the build of "it's just a chicken coop" is the primary reason this defect exists. I'm sure he'll learn to live with it eventually. :-)

Glad you figured out your problem RedneckGirl.

Mine has been running without a hitch for over 3 weeks since I put in the new battery.

My first BYC post after a long time lurking.

I bought the Ador and installed about 4-5 weeks ago. Been through the whole gambit of N Indiana weather. No problems and I love it as do the girls.

About 3 days ago I noticed it didn't open up in AM. It has not opened on its own in last 3 days morning open or night close. I've tried everything including disconnecting battery. What's going on? I'm at a loss and I assume Rod isn't available because of holidays.

Any help or ideas would be great. When I hit button it opens/closes just fine but for some reason I've lost automatic.

That keeps happening to me too. I replaced the battery, but it's just so inconsistent. Just when I've given up, it works. Then after a few days it stops letting them out again.

Last two days it's been working again. Haven't done anything different. Hope once holidays are done I might be able to discuss with Rod.

Very perplexing.

Keep track of the temperature. Mine was very finicky a few weeks back. Some days it would open, some days not, and some days only half way. It would always close, though. I started to notice on colder days is when I had the problem. I know batteries have less power on colder days. I replaced the battery, and it has been fine ever since then.

I did have a scare though yesterday. The door did not open in the morning, and I thought, "Here we go again!." I went out and pushed the button. I heard the motor start but it soon shut down. I tapped the bottom of the door, pushed the button again, and it went right up. Seems there was a little debris and poop at the bottom of the door. The door went down the night before when it was 50 degrees outside, but during the night it got real cold. The door got stuck at the bottom in a little piece of frozen poop, just enough so it wouldn't open. I took a knife and cleaned the bottom where it "locks" into the track.! Reminder to self: Check that more often!
