ADS? LOUD ADS? On BYC?

I'm glad to hear that the others didn't experience this repeatedly.

Here are the details:

First the top right corner square had an add with video and audio start. I did not click on any thing, but I suppose there was the off chance that the cursor rolled over the area. It was not an ad that I had seen or heard when I was surfing the web on other sites. I clicked on the x in the top right corner and it stopped.

A minute later a video started playing in the same spot. It had a youtube logo in the lower right corner of the the square. There was no x in the top right corner, so I actually closed the tab and it stopped.

I open a tab and went back to my profile. This time the audio came on automatically, but the video did not match any where. I checked some other tabs to see if they were the source, but no. I closed the tab again and it stopped.

I opened the tab again. I got some audio automatically again, and I noticed that the ad strip at the very top right was blurred as if it was a section of a stopped video. The Venus razor jingle was playing. I closed the tab and opened it again. Some other audio played so I hit mute on my lap top and reported it and closed the tab and turned my audio back on.

Four hours later I return write this - It hasn't happened again even though I haven't turned off my computer in the mean time.

I had this happen today as well, but normally I don't have my speakers on so I didn't realize that it doesn't always do that. I also looked around to try to figure out where it was coming from, but there were no obvious sources.

Are all of you using IE? I wonder if that is the problem. I use Firefox. I never had this issue on this site. Though it does happen on other sites occasionally.

Edit: I just tried turning my speakers on and scrolling over all the ads, and nothing happened.

and I hadn't scrolled over anything, just dinking around the site.

If the ads are coming through BYC, it shouldn't have anything to do with the browser you're using. I've escalated the issue to our ad team and they are looking into what could be going on.

Yes, they are definitally coming from backyardchickens, just a little box in the side that fits in with the rest of the adds.

Yes, they are definitally coming from backyardchickens, just a little box in the side that fits in with the rest of the adds.

Do you have any other details? So far nobody has been able to take a screenshot or tell us what the ad looked like, what it was advertising, etc. (no need to post links or anything that would help the offending advertiser... but just enough info to track it down and get rid of it).

This happened to my one BYC a while ago. I thought it was normal, so I didn't think anything of it. If it happens again, I'll be sure to remember the details.

I actually did report that I recognized the audio of the ad. One of them was the Venus Razor jingle. But it was really odd because in this case there was no video that matched. Read post 11 for the details.
