advcie please , Update page 4

I had some banties do that as well. I put a stuffed duck in with them and they cuddled right up to it and stopped. I have also heard you can put a feather duster in and they will hide in the feathers. I am going to get one of those the next time I am in town to try that. I thinks its a really good idea and I think it would work.

there she is mid peep, they have a red light on them , I dont think she is eating or drinking she feels frail and dried out, the rest of the chicks have a bit of plump going on, I tried to give her a drop of water but I think she just got it in her lungs as she wont stop crying long enough to swallow.

I have a fuzzy sock in there to cuddle , food and water , bedding , other chickies , a red bulb in the heat lamp . I showed her the food and rubbed her beak in it gently sohopefully that might make her realize its food . I will re read all the posts and try to come up with a game plan

I had one doing that and as I watched I noticed that she also kept moving in a circle to the right. I suspect she had something wrong with her brain or had wry neck (no other symptoms, however). She was so distressed that I had hubby put her down.

You might try hanging a feather duster upside down in the brooder. I had some chicks that really seemed comforted by that. It also gave them a place to escape from the bullies as they couldn't be seen under it.

Since it is a banty, and a lot of people seem to have problems with the size of some of the chick crumbles with them. Have you tried chopping the chick start smaller or making it into a mash with water and maybe even a bit yogurt until she eats better? They will go downhill fast if they are not getting anything down.

I hadnt thought that she couldnt see , how do you check that?
The only thing she does besides stand an peep is if a chick gets within touching distance she rubs her head across there butt or on thre side and they promptly run away looking like they have been goosed.
There food is almost a poweder there arnt any big chunks in it . Can you feed chickens? I mean like you would a baby bird that needs to be fed instead of eating on its own, I think if i could get her tummy full she would perk up and maybe get the idea of this eating thing not to mention last long enough for me to figure out what the heck is going on ,
I cant find a feather duster I have checked the local fred meyers , safe way and doller store , Ill keep looking though. I looked when I had a single chick a bit back.

one of mine was doing that - i decided that even tho he/she was trying to eat/drink it wasn't getting enough, so i mixed a little sugar water w/some vitamin electrolyte mixed in and dipped it's beak a few times (but mine wasn't peeping NONstop, just almost constantly), then moistened some chick crumble and it got going pecking at it itself.... then i decided that even tho it was more work for me, i've started throwing all of my chick crumble in the food processor and making it almost mash-like, because it's awful big crumbles - i'll continue doing that til they're all a little bigger. all of them are happy now - and i give them a little blob of moistened food a few times a day - they go bananas....

good luck with your little one!

i got some orpingtons and 1 banty on the same day. the banty was just to small. i found the best thing for her was to put her in a smaller seperate brooder with just 1 of the others and now she is doing great! the brooders are close together and so can share the same red heat lamp, so that save some on cost. i just took a small plastic tub, drilled 1" holes around the top as my brooder for her.
