Adventures in Incubating Shipped Eggs

Pics
Hi all! So, here's my shipped egg journey so far.

I won an auction for 6 goose eggs on ebay. They arrived, I let them sit with the fat end up for 24 hours, then put them in the incubator. Day 7, nothing at all. Day 10....still nothing. So I opened them up and they hadn't even started developing. Bummer. So I contact the seller just to let them know (I know I would want to), and being the wonderful, amazing, and generous person they are.....they sent me 6 more for free.

So, the next attempt batch gets here and the box is dented. Uh-oh. Well, I candle them and 3 have wonky air cells. Double uh-oh. But it's a small batch, so I figure I'll give them a try. Let them sit fat end up for 24 hours. Weighed and marked them. The 3 with messed up air cells were 1,2, and 3. The 3 with fine air cells were 4, 5, and 6. Day 7 comes along.....4, 5, and 6 have dark spots and veining starting. 1 looks....well...lumpy. I smell it and can smell the bad egg smell. Out goes egg 1. 2 and 3 show no signs of being bad or developing. Take them out again on day 10.....egg 2 has honey colored gross goo leaking out a little. It gets tossed into the woods across the street, because I don't need that in my life. Egg 3 isn't developing. Out goes egg 3. 4, 5, and 6 have more veining. Around day 15 the power goes out. So I take them out into the car with a thermometer and turn the heat on. I sit out there with them until the power comes back. That was a blast.

Fast forward to today. It's day 22 and 4,5, and 6 are active little things. We're so close to the big day I can hardly stand it. I'm anxious and excited.

Wish me luck. Or rather, wish them luck.
Good luck to you and the 3!

No broody, she sat for 3 hours and that was it today. Not clucking anymore either. :(

I'm getting the feeling that she just isn't going to go all the way over -- at least not in time to raise any chicks that hatch. If I didn't have such a big rooster, I would get a couple of silkies.

Not going to deny... the only reason I got my Silkie was in the hope of getting a girl to be a broody. Since then I've read conflicting information on how good they are at it... but I still want a few more Silkies!
