Hey Everyone! I believe my 3.5 year old Easter Egger has sour crop. I notice her being lethargic yesterday and pooping yellow wet diarrhea. I initially started with sovereign silver and an epsom salt bath thinking it was something to do with her abdomen or vent, (she had similar symptoms about a month ago except then her abdomen was swollen.) I treated those and she seemed to be doing good until yesterday.
Today she didn’t want to eat with the flock and wouldn’t even eat a special meal of plain Greek yogurt, scrambled eggs, tiny bit of apple sauce, and a couple dried bugs on top.
I then syringe fed her a tiny bit of Greek yogurt and gave her another dose of Sovereign Silver. After doing some research I’m led to believe this is sour crop. Her crop didn’t empty over night form yesterday into today and was on the smaller side of full, but still full and squishy for that matter. Like a small water balloon.
After reading how to treat sour crop I have withheld food and water from her and isolated her to our smaller coop. QUESTION THOUGH: can I give her fresh PLAIN water? It’s not extremely hot today but it is still 90. She is in the shade and I have a small fan blowing on her, but she is panting more than my other hens and I want to make sure she stays hydrated. I still have like 18 hours left though until it is suggested to reintroduce water….
