Hello, I'm davi, and chickens are my favorite animal ever since I owned chickens. Having trouble with your chickens runnimg away from you? I'm here to help. I started raising chickens almost a year ago, and we've already become good friends.
1. Number one priortity : give your chickens treats daily, a handful of seeds or veggies depended on what they like. Chicken's friends are the people who give them thier favorite food. In just a few weeks your chickens will start to understand you better and have a reason to trust you. WARNING! Even at this stage its easy for the chickens to lose thier trust on you. Do not do anything that displeases them such as struggling to hold and pet them, sometimes they may not like it. But don't worry, as soon as you show tight bonds with you, they won't mind much as long as you hold them the right way.
2. This is optional, I prefer to call them its snack time. I whistle to get thier attention, as they run with thier overrun faces.
But other than whistling, you can use a bell, say a name, whatever you like as long as its clear and hearable.
3.My chickens like grass. And leaves. You should have something unposionus and always a instant snack if they're too eager and peck you and demand food, lol.
4. At this point, like at 5, 6 weeks they will love you and trust you, and prefrorm close bonds and relationships bettween each other.
You can pet them, you can kiss them, hug them, They don't mind much for me. I'd also like to share my own touching story.
I owned chickens quite a while ago but I'm still a lttle new to chickens but I have learned so much! Today I just witnessed the highest bond we couid ever have. I have them free range for fresh damp grass and delicous treats and fresh garden veggies and Inscects that most of us don't care to know about. Today in the after noon something made me pick up one of my hens, Tiny, and made her sit on my lap, and give her scratches. I saw Tiny as she closed her eyes and relaxed herself to being at my side, and enjoied a nice head scratch. I've felt amazing, I sound silly but you'll understand if you experience this yourself. That night, I went to see my other beuatiful hens, Cooper and Booker sleeping on a perch with a new coop soon to come. I felt sorry for them sleeping outside, but I know a new big and large coop is soon to come. For a few minutes, I just sat there. watching them sleep. But I just wanted to give them a good night scratch. They closed thier eyes and fell asleep and I tiptoed away. I feed all warm inside for what I did, they obviously feel comfortable around me.
What happend to you? And was this helpful? Please let me know!
