We ordered 6 new silkie chicks. The post office called me at 6:30 this morning, when I arrived only one had survived the trip. Now there is only one sad chick in the brooder. She seems weak, but is drinking and eating-even pooped once. She doesn't move around steady, but looks like she is getting stronger. She keeps making a loud chirping noise. Worried that she is all alone. Any advice?

I have seen where people put a mirror and/or stuffed animal in with the singlet. Is where you got them from sendin more chicks? Maybe keep it in a crate inside the house until new ones get there.

Phone the hatchery you ordered from and get a replacement order immediately.

I hate to say it, but your lone survivor probably won't make it. Be prepared. For all but one of the chicks to die during transit, the stress must have been horrific. The last chick sounds as if it's had a huge dose.

Revive it with sugar water and minced boiled egg. It's peeping because it's sick from stress, not loneliness. Keep it warm. I suggest a heating pad. Make a cocoon for it to snuggle in. It will stay warm and comforted.

I hope it makes it.

Thanks. All great advice. I hope she makes it too. I'm wondering what happened in transit.

I think you should pay a lot of attention to her and love and cuddle her a lot. Then she won't feel as lonely. My first chicken was a loner and still is I cuddled with her and she was fine. I agree with the stuffed animal idea also
