Morning all

I've set up a new run for tikka so she's on her own with 5. No sign of any hatching today.
Theres no bad smell but i will go and look tonight and the ones that aren't dark i will remove. I'm glad its a good sign if their 3/4 dark.

Will keep you posted. I lay in bed thinking about them last night. So silly as their only eggs

That's normal! It is so exciting! I especially remember the first time we were hatching eggs...I kept running down before I went to bed to check on it. Went to bed really late, didn't sleep well and woke up when it was still dark to check.

I was sooooo excited! Tikka could probably be with Flo and they would be fine. It is good to have a backup place for her to go in case they don't get along though.

You're not silly at all.

One of my hens decided to go broody on 21 eggs a month ago. After about a week her sister moved into the box and they split the eggs in half and both sat the remaining couple of weeks. I thought it was sweet that her sister decided to keep her company and share the load (I know it was likely just hormones but whatever!). Only 8 hatched but they have been raising them together for the past week with no problems. The chicks run back and forth between both, climbing on and under. Its a great outcome. I really didn't know what to expect since the mamas are only five months old now so this is all new to them. I do have them separated from the other chickens and guineas in an outdoor brooder area that I made.

Morning all

After a long wait we have one chick this morning (day 22) not holding out much hope for the others but who knows.

How many days would you wait until you remove the other eggs? I've been reading that it could be up to day 25????????

Congrats on the lone chick! Was it Tikka's or Flo's? I would wait a few more days before removing any unless there is a rotten smell or you have candled them and they are empty. The hen might not stay on the nest until Day 25 but if she does and they eggs aren't rotten leave them.

Thanks I can't concentrate on work now.

My daughter has already named it Coco and she's not even seen it yet

I will go and candle the others tonight or will it freak out the chicks in their eggs?
