Advice needed on sick pullet

I was given a 4 month old pullet recently, and I am pretty sure she is sick. I have noticed her sneezing and gurgling alote. She had a nasty butt when I got her, so I brought her inside and gave her a bath and spent 45 minutes blow drying her. I do not have her in the yard with my chickens. She is in a dog crate in the front of my house, (chickens in the back). I went ahead and wormed her because I am not sure if she has ever been wormed before. I plan on getting some Tylan50 tomorrow just incase.

I really hope this is not CRD, but that is what I am leaning towards. What does this mean for this pullet? How do I need to go about handling the situation? Thanks

ETA: I know that alote of you will tell me to cull. I need to know what other options I have.

If it is CRD she can be treated with tylosin or tetracyclines. Good luck with her!

If she becomes a carrier (instead of being cured) then she could pass it on. The most common mode of transmission is via the egg though...hen passes it to offspring, but it can also be transmitted to other birds. They can test for it though if you're interested in going that far.

"CRD is a disease that spreads very easy throughout a flock if left untreated. The first thing you need to do is isolate infected birds, as close contact spreads the disease. Then you have 2 options. You can cull infected birds, and burn the carcasses, or you can treat the symptoms. Keep in mind that a bird that has had CRD, will become a carrier after symptoms go away, and may get sick again when under stress."



So I found this Info on CRD...... in bold it say's that they will become carriers.....

You could just vaccinate your other chickens...

ETA: I would probably just cull her, but your first post said you wanted other options. If she has CRD the meat is still safe for human consumption.

It may be another type of resp. infection and not CRD...although I know the probablilities favor CRD. Personally...I would treat her until she is over it. Then get a buddy for her for a while and watch her. Maybe you could find out how to get her tested in the meantime to be sure that it is CRD. Best luck to you Barnyard...and to your new girl!!

You can call the agr. dept there. Now keep in mind if it is a reportable disease you could also have the rest of your flock killed. I am waiting now on testing they did of mine. They appear very healthy at this time and the agr. guy said he did not think I had to worry much. They test for pylorum, salmonella, and some kind of mycroplas..... Can't remember exactly what. They also check for any viral disease. The viral test is sent off and takes a couple of weeks to come back the others are done on site for a minimal fee of 5.00 dollars and was worth it to me since I am just starting out. My test all but the viral was neg. which is great. I am waiting on the viral. I hate to say it but it is easier and better for all the rest of your flock to cull this bird. Sorry. Jean
