yesterday i took one of my seven hens to the vet as she was suffering because she couldnt breath properly and the vet suspected she has a upper respiretory infection and as she was in a coop with another 6 chickens the vet gave me antibiotics to give to all of them, and as she suspected they are all sick today but my poor wee annie is worse again and im worried that she really cant breath and she sounds like an old man who has smoked all there life. i wonder if anyone could give me advice on if there is anything else i could do to help her breath better untill the antibiotics start to take affect. thanks in advance for any help x x x

What antibiotics were given? Which form? Injection or water soluble? I've have had great success for respiratory illness using tylan50. which is the antibiotic tylosin. I give by injection into the breast muscle once daily for 5 days. If your antibiotic does not work you might consider tylan50. Dose is large birds 1/4 cc small birds 1/2 cc. Other than that I'm not sure of anything that can help relieve her. You might consider asking the Vet if she would benefit from a vaporiser. But please ask first because you don't want to make her worse. Perhaps that would help? But consult with the vet before hand. Best wishes and hope she heals soon.

Vet RX, just a little bit rubbed down the middle of their beaks. Think of it as Vicks vaporub for poultry.

Do you or can you get Oxine? This can be mixed and put into a sprayer and used to directly spray onto your birds. As Realsis also brought up, this can also be used in a vaporizer.

This is where I purchased mine. I am currently using it on a chick who is showing symptoms I have never seen before as well as an antibiotic. I am noticing improvements just from the 2 sprays they have received. Just mix it, non activated, and then spray it over them, feed, water, everything in the coop or brooder.

I believe the dose is 1/4 cc small bird or bantam and 1/2 cc for large bird.
