Yes, that's another option, to give them some access but not full access underneath. If you can easily reach 2' under, then blocking off past 2 feet would give them a little shaded space to use for things like dust baths.

I don’t understand the construction with the roost ladder + the roost bar from one side to the other + the high roost in the corner.

I thought those were braces for when the coop was to be moved/transported, so likely are intended to be removed once the coop is set (?).
