Advice on culling a rooster

You have done the right thing.

It's hard the first time, but now you know that you're capable of doing what's necessary when it's necessary and that's a good thing to know about oneself.
Thank you for the reassurance. I started raising quail and I know I am a very small time away from having to start making these calls on a regular basis. The chickens are special to me as they are friendly and loveable so it really stung a bit to not be able to fix this the way I would have liked to. But I have to think practically that I don't need an aggressive rooster in a rabbit hutch and how I wouldn't feel comfortable giving him away when he really likes to go after people.

Yes. It's hard, but it's sometimes necessary.

I hope that, if you want a rooster, you'll be able to find a gentleman to treat both you and the hens well.
