I have had my Columbian Wyandotte roo on Craigslist for 8 weeks & STILL have not gotten rid of him. Only one person has even contacted me for my FREE roo. My DH keeps saying we will eat him but.................he's still crowing!

I'm lucky! If I have a young rooster that is not fit for breeding, I know a guy who will take all I have and make a meal of them. In fact, he's coming today to pick up one. If I have an excess of really good ones, there's always somebody looking for a free, fantastic bbs Orpington rooster.

Well, I'm glad your dad changed his mind!

If anyone else has to sell a rooster though, here's my 2 cents:

Well, you don't have to kill them, as way too many people here think. I had a few too many roosters, so I sold them. The problem with posting them for free, is that they will quite likely go to a place where they'll just be eaten. If you add a small fee (e.g. $6) , they will won't be eaten (you can specify "to good home only" or "looking for a flock of hens" in your ad). I managed to sell four roosters to extremely nice homes recently. Make sure you focus on the positives in your ad: "beautiful rooster, would make great breeding stock", "super tame", "very showy", etc. Say that you can deliver to certain areas. Always specify what area you live in (no need to say the exact address). If you are going somewhere recently (for example, you live in northern Washington but are going to Southern California for a month), post on that areas Craigslist too, specifying about the time frame you'll be about to sell there. There are bulletin boards at places like post offices and grocery stores where you can put up free ads. Another place I sold roosters was the farmers market (sounds a bit bad, but all of them went to great homes, not the stew pot). Try not to sound desperate either. Confidence is key!

Please, no more comments about 'putting him in the stew pot'. Gatlin obviously likes the rooster and doesn't want that happening to him.
