We are located on the east cost of florida near cape canaveral.
I put all the girls in their house at 1pm today. the windows are boarded shut. there are vents and fans running but no windows open. it appears that we are going to get slammed until at least monday early evening bu hurricane irma.

I think that they should not have access to their run during a hurricane with possible 100mph sustained winds. but that means they are going to have to stay locked in the coop from now until tomorrow early evening.

anyone been through this and any thoughts on forcing them to stay locked up that long ?

attached are pics of their environment that they will have to stay locked in if i dont let them out

good thing she left. tampa is a bullseye right now and destin is in its path too. we are in cocoa and getting flooding rains right now

You know, when you first get a flock of chickens, you keep them locked in the coop for like, two weeks. This is no biggie whatsoever. You have a nice roomy coop, they have all they need in there. Don't waste time worrying about your chickens, they are way better off than some of your neighbors, no doubt.

thanks for everyones replies and good will.
right now we are concerned that the water in the yard is getting way too close for comfort to the front door and the hurricane is not even here yet. we have had 5 inches of rain so far today.
