Advice on keeping flock locked in ?

just got my internet connection back. finally got electricity back yesterday evening. really missed the ac. the chickens did fine. their house got wet in spots but i got it all dryed out. the wind actually blew rain under the shingles and leaked inside. 100mph+ winds so i guess its to be expected. My Adoor battery operated chicken door opened sometime during the night for some unknown reason and i suspect the girls were scared to death. when i went into the run to put out the food and water, i noticed the door had opened and it was dead quiet in the house and the sun was up. i was afraid they were all dead. i went inside and when they saw me, they went outside. i feel soooooo bad that they weathered some part of that horrible storm with that door open. it blew a lot of rain in the door also even though it under roof. im thankful that all my girls made it. it was terrifying in our house in the dark and silence other than the storm. you could hear every little piece of debris hitting the house. we had flooding all over the property and had no water the following morning. i just went into the front yard with a 5 gallon bucket to get water to flush the toilets until we got water back the following day. glad its over. it may be time to pitch the electric Adoor chicken door and go to a manual one.

So glad things went as well as they did for you and your flock! I imagine the door issue stemmed from power flickers and surges, if this was three only issue you've had i don't know id toss the user of it completely, maybe just note to disconnect it next time you're facing a major storm.

Ditto Dat^^^

Would not pitch until tested on steady power in reasonable weather.
And the ADOR folks have great customer service.
There's thread here that the owner follows...but darned if I can find it.

its a battery operated door via a 6 volt lantern battery. there was next to no lightning during the storm

Run off a timer or light sensor?
It may have gotten wet inside.

My Ador door has a light sensor, and also the manual button. I love it, especially this time of year, the sun doesn't come up and open the door until about an hour after I leave the house, and it closes long before I get home from work. With a storm like they had, it would be a good idea to disconnect the battery to keep them locked up.

Bevis, I'm glad all your girls were safe, even if they were scared when the door opened.

Absolute solid advise that i thought of after i discovered the problem.
i have the photocell disabled on the jumper block as i dont want to use it. i think the problem stems from having a remotely located open/close button. when you have that option in use, the ador door does not like you pushing the button on the front panel. but i had no choice as i was forcing them into the house at 1pm and they were pissed off to say the least. i had to put my boot in front of the door to keep them from running back out, so i had to use the button on the front panel. i should have pulled the battery or came back out and checked it . im disappointed that the door has an issue like that where the remote momentary contact switch and the panel switch dont play well together. the biggest issue was the next 9 hours with 6 fans running to dry out every spot that got wet so i didnt develop a mold issue in the future.
