So for the past few days, my Brahma hen has been keeping her mouth open and appears to be panting. We live in Texas along the coast so it’s hot and humid here. This is my first time raising chicks so not sure if there’s something wrong with her? The others chicks are fine…I have a total of 4 chickens ( each one a different breed) all 3 months old. Would appreciate any advice.

I had a young buff Brahma that was hefty, and she would pant and hold her wings out from her body. My large coop had a tin roof, and I had to make sure that my windows on both ends were open for good ventilation. If your hen is overweight, she might do better to lose a little weight. Keeping them on a balanced chicken feed with no extra treats would be best. I place cool, but not cold shaded water in flat pans around my chickens’ area for them to stand in to cool off, and that helps. Make sure to put multiple waterers around so every one will have an opportunity to drink.
