Advice on temporary pen

Next week I’ll be down to a Trio of around 4 month olds. I’m setting up a 10x10 kennel with a roof for them which I know needs to be much larger eventually. My husband wants to put it down next to our chicken/ duck run but after reading I’m really second guessing that. Right now they are on top of the hill close to our house right next to the guineas. I’m thinking I need to keep the close to where they are now and away from the chickens and ducks. Can someone give me suggestions on what I need to do for them for winter...since they don’t have a coop with a tarp around 3 sides be sufficient? Suggestions for roost?

I have not wormed them yet, I have liquid safeguard for my goats on hand but since they haven’t showed any signs of needing it I haven’t given it to them. Should I hold off on working until spring?

I think a tarp on the sides will be fine, make sure it is the sides that tend to get the most wind.
For the roost, would you be able to make a simple wood frame? You could do 2 wood frames, 1 goes on the ground for stability, and then have wood stilts connecting the bottom frame to the top frame, they would be able to roost on the top frame.

perfect!!! Thank you! I’d want the top board flat or to add a flat board for them to have a wider roost to cover their feet in winter correct?

I use 2x4s in my coop and have the wider side the side they roost on to cover their feet.

Here’s what my husband came up with. I am going to put wire at the top openings and possibly at the bottom couple feet. I do know once the get bigger and have long tails I’m going to have to expand a lot!!!! I’m just hoping to get through winter. My great pyrneese does a good job keeping predators away but she’s only a little over one so she’s not trusted with birds quite yet. She doesn’t try to get to them but if one gets loose.....

You have harsh winters, I would wrap the entire kennel except for the gate. Be sure to put down a generous bed of straw as when they get too cold they will go to the ground. They need to be out of the cold wind.

The A-frame you have is a good roost.

You should give an oral dose of the Safeguard monthly until mid-winter. Regular cocci treatments once per month is also a good idea.
