I don't know what Sumatra chicks are supposed to look like LOL. Maybe someone else can chip in? Hold the unhatched eggs against your ear and tap them with your fingernail. If there's a live chick in there it'll let you know. Or candle them and see if their beaks are in the air sack.

Thanks for advice about tapping the egg with fingernail...we tried that and thought we heard something so put them straight back in!

Somebody else thought the "sumatra" chick may be some sort of Modern Game bantam...any thoughts??...

That would be my guess. I don't know what sumatra chicks are suposed to look like, but if it's anything like the adults, thats sure not it. From the stance I would guess game.

I contacted the seller of the 'sumatra' egg and he was very confused! But turns out it's a large Shamo!!

...which is a shock to say the least, as we keep bantams! Should be interesting.....

Shamo? Never heard of it. Going to look them up quick. Hope it's a hen...

I love Shamos! I want one so bad, the O-shamo is the tallest breed of chicken I believe and it is a game bird. They get really tall and look like raptors. LOVE THEM! Lucky you! Hows the other eggs?

lindisfarne, looks like you accidentally lucked out there

We had actually joked about getting a shamo!...but hadn't really planned for one quite yet

The chick is very cute with the little mini silkie and hasn't been aggressive yet... and we are getting given 6 more sumatra eggs by the seller so i think in the end we most definitely lucked out!! guess we're keeping the incubator on a bit longer...

Unfortunately the other 2 fertile eggs haven't hatched-the frizzle one did look like it was gonna and shook loads with lots of cheeping but the shamo was the first to hatch and gave all the other eggs a big shake up which i think may have caused some problems

but fingers crossed with the new sumatras when they arrive!
I think its an O shamo we have as the seller said they were large....
will keep you updated!
