Everyone has a right to their opinions, but I do not think her problems are necessarily due to them. I got my training through the IBEW also, and never had to deal with them for my unempoyment... it is the contractor who is responsible for the lay-off slip not the union.
I must have missed something about the lay-off slip. I'm under the impression that they were out of work.
No, there was work available, but she wanted time off for her wedding. So technically, if the contractor denied her the time off and she left anyway, she quit. If the contractor denied her time off and subsequently fired or layed her off, they should have provided her with a lay-off slip or termination papers, of which she got neither.
It sounds like she did not want to work 5 hours from home and the contractor nor the union hall had anything closer, but she had accepted the job ( granted she thought it would only be for 8 weeks) but I have yet to see jobs that are perfectly on scheduale, so it does appear she quit. However, Montana unemployment law states that she and the employer have 8 days from the time of filing to dispute the claim. So, it appears the employer (the contractor) did not dispute until almost a year later, she may have a case because of this.
