Advice please

The gas company is not going to be happy if they cant read your meter(s). Is the street access on the other side of that fence near the top of the photo? Just something to think about.

Good point!

Personally I would not dig for posts anywhere near a gas meter. Couldn't pay me enough to try it, nope, no way!

I am also wandering about codes/access to the meter rules regarding this.

There are likely codes about setbacks for structures and for chicken housing.

Oftentimes the setbacks are designed so emergency personnel can get where they need to be unimpeded.

Good point will Definitely look into it

Definitely look into what setback restrictions you might have... some areas have none (so you can put it right up against your house or under a deck) while others can require as much as 150 feet. My restrictions are pretty loose... 10 feet away from property line and that's it.

I'm personally not a fan of using a side yard because it's so narrow it's hard to maneuver in to clean and stuff and it also means the coop ends up being long and narrow. Do you have any other spots in your yard that you could put your coop and run in?

Those meters look like they have automatic electronic reading. Many places are converting meters so a vehicle travels down the street and gets meter readings via RF....
They'll still want access to them....and/or you won't want them traipsing thru the chicken area to get to the meter if need be.

UPDATE

So we decided to put our coop in a different spot in our backyard and decided to just build a enclosure/chicken run & I think it’s going to work out better here so we can just avoid any issues with meters, plus they’ll have a little extra room, it’s still under construction but here’s a pic of what we got so far.
What do you guys think??
