I am a newbie chicken owner and I am having some problems.

Our Special Dual Purpose chicken were purchased as day old chicks about 13 weeks ago.

11 Roosters and 11 Hens

Today when I came home from work we noticed that one of the roosters is missing feathers on the back of his neck and has a wound, not open yet but extremely raw. He seems to be stressed out, panting and laying down whenever he isn't being botherd. We seperated the rooster from all the other birds but they are getting really agressive with each other and I am not sure what to do.

Advice from some of you could really help.

Thanks in advance.

You probably realize that you have about 10 too many roos. I imagine you are going to be eating them, since you bought dual purpose birds.
Separate till it's time.

Good luck

Hi and welcome!
First of all this post is in the wrong section, which could be why you haven't recieved answers yet. You have 11 roosters? how old are they? They will fight if they are over 6 months old. If they are dual purpose, which would mean that you want the roos for eating, i would keep the biggest roo for reproduction and process the rest.

Oh, too many roos in with the hens. You might be able to keep them together (although they will fight) but you would have to seperate them from the females. All together and they will fight and some won't make it.

Give them some good roosts to run away to and some hiding spots if possible. Spread your feed around on the ground or the less dominant ones will not get enough food to eat.

Best option, process or give most of them away.
