hi
Can anybody give me any advice please? My hens have been sneezing and rasping for quite some time now. I’ve tried adding respite, vit boost+. I clean their house out daily, filled in any gaps to prevent drafts, and still sneezing and heavy breathing. I’ve just done the 7 days with flubendazole to treat for any worms, I am at a loss! I have some doxycycline 100mg capsules that I’m thinking of giving, can this be added to drink water, also on another thread, I read to get some denagard and treat with both??? @Eggcessive any advice would be really appreciated 😁

Oh Thank you, I’ll look at that now 😁
Great article, I have got most of that covered, good ventilation etc. But I still need advice on what antibiotics to give, measurements and how to administer them. ie through water, food or orally. Cheers

Quick search reveals dosing for Doxycycline (see link below). How to administer depends on the form you have. Show a photo of the product.
Doxy *should* treat symptoms of Mycoplasma.
Denagard is also used to treat Mycoplasma.

Hi @Wyorp Rock, I hope you are well! Thank you for your help. I have attached a picture, mine are powder capsules 🤷‍♀️ I have 8 hens, 4 rescue and 4 polish bantams, so maybe 3 capsules to 1 gallon of water, does that sound right?

Doxycycline according to some who have experience with it, may settle out in water, which would prevent them from getting the correct dosage. I would only treat the ones with symptoms, and try giving it orally, perhaps in a little food. Doxycycline canntreat MG symptoms, but if you are dealing with a virus, such as infectious bronchitis or a couple of others, the disease would have to run it’s course over time, and antibiotics do no good. IB virus can last around a month with symptoms of mostly sneezing and slight congestion. IB can also cause wrinkled egg shells and other egg problems. If you see bubbles or foam in eyes, or swelling of eyelids, you are probably dealing with MG. Thick yellow nasal drainage with very swollen eyelids could be coryza.

Hi @Eggcessive It sounds like MG, Thinking about it, a couple have had bubbles in their eyes, I thought it was an eye irritation/infection and cleaned with Vetericyn plus. I will make them some scrambled egg to get it into them, they love it!! Thank you so much, ur a superstar!:thumbsup

Well whateve you do, please don’t breed from your sickly infected flock as you don’t know what disease your flock has and some diseases are transmitted via the eggs, making any chicks that hatch, already infected with the disease. So please keep a closed flock and don’t sell, breed or giveaway birds from your flock. Know king doing this, can lead to federal state law issues.

Morning
I’m from the UK so I don’t think that applies to me, also, I don’t breed, they are my little girls, pets only.
