Get your chicks from a good source, keep the area relatively clean, dont pickup strays, predator proof their coop and you should be fine. There is a lot of sicknesses on this forum but considering how many people have chickens it is a low rate. I suggest doing what I did and take the leap, youll learn quickly and every one here will help you. If it turns out that it isnt for you, you can easily give or sell your stuff/ chickens.
