We're glad you found BYC too. When do your geese mate and lay eggs in Ireland. My geese were mating in Jan and my goose started laying end of Jan.

Well ive the brown africans that start mating in mid jan and start laying in mid march same with my toulouse ,chinese, greylags, embdems, roman tuffed, female grey steinbacher and the cross breeds but my buff africans start mating in march and start laying in may! i never seen geese do this but that does mean i can incubate first brown africans and wait again till may to get my buff eggs
i incubated a bunch of brown africans eggs this year and i got 7 which i was delighted with and my buffs suprised me in summer when they layed but i didnt incubate them coz i was too confused if i should or not but anyway the eggs were sold for a 10er each (africans are rare in ireland espically buffs) coz i thought it would be a waste and i put one egg under my broody hen and she hatched out a little buff female which grew rapidly and keeping her for breeding next year. And next year i cant wait to incubate more brown africans and buff africans diffently!

Are your geese for food? do you show them? you have a nice assortment of breeds. How did you come by the Africians?if you don't mind me asking

I love when people ask me questions and i dont really show my geese but i sell them at any age from 2 weeks on and sell their eggs and the africans (brown) came from england and my buffs from scotland and i will sale africans in a few years to come coz im trying to set up breeding pairs starting next year
