After a year, still no egg

Feel her pubic bones below her vent. How many fingers width's can you fit between them? I believe it's 2 finger width's is not laying and 3 finger width's for laying.

Kelly, I thought you wrote "FEED her pubic bones" - I was like WHAT IN THE WORLD? And all this time, I thought Kelly was running on all cylinders! HA! (sorry to hijack)

I JUST minutes ago had a short PM conversation with another Staff member who, like me, has a hen that has never laid. My girl will stay on the farm regardless of egg-laying status, as she's a sweetie. Sometimes, they just don't ever lay, although I do think it's not very common.

Wow, never laying? Didn't know that was possible. I guess there's people who can't have children, so it makes sense that there are chickens that don't lay eggs.

I tried that. She's a bantam, does that make a difference? I only felt one fingers worth between. Yes she's in a pen with others but only recently. Before she was with one other hen that does lay. I will keep her regardless because she is also a sweetie!! She greets me whenever I come near and she's so shy with other chickens. I love her to pieces.

I don't know what the guideline is on bantams as I don't have any. But with 1 finger width, I'd say she's not laying. So that rules out her hiding eggs. Hmmm, hopefully others can help.

Hmm I wonder if she's a hermaphadite chicken, or just a birth defect, either way she's well cared for.
