I have an ameraucana who was sitting all day on the nest and I kept having to push her out to get eggs so then she would pull down an egg from the nest to sit on it in the coop, poor thing. This went on for several days so I am assuming she was broody? Shes not even 1 year old yet and this is her first laying season. She would not leave the nest so I sectioned her off so she couldn't get to the nest for a day and hasn't sat in the nest since. So she hasn't laid an egg for over a week since. Is this normal? How long typically do they take to start laying again? I don't care about the egg, I am just wondering if anything else could be wrong. Shes eating, drinking and acting very normal. Thanks for any help!

She’s physically fine but emotionally nutty 🤣 she wants babies. You could go grab some fertilized eggs and watch the magic happen if you want! If not some people would suggest a dunk to two of her bottom in ice water. I’ve never done this myself.

Would love to hatch babies but not possible where I live :( I thought it odd though that I only had to separate her 1 day from the nest to cure her from sitting in the nest?

As far as resuming laying, maybe 2-3 weeks would be about expected.

I think 3 days is closer to the "average" though I've broken birds in under 2 days (via caging).

So my Ameraucana STILL hasnt laid an egg since her broody episode. Its been over 4 weeks now. Acting normal, no mites, eating drinking fine. Should I be concerned?

Hmmm, not sure. My last broody never resumed laying after we broke her back in June? July? She's always been a sporadic layer so I don't anticipate getting more eggs from her until spring, but yours is younger so less likely to take a break through the winter. But I suppose it's possible that you won't see eggs from her again until days start lengthening again.
