Hello! I have been wanting chickens ever since the town we lived in allowed up to 10 chickens per yard. My husband was adamant that we did not want or need chickens. It's been several years, we sold the house and moved rural. He finally said yes shortly after our state locked down.
We are brand new to this and have 7 chickens. I have no idea what breed they are since I ordered a mix online (local was sold out). We had ordered 10, one died during shipping and another the next day. We lost one more a week later, but I am not sure why- it seemed a genetic issue.
I was not expecting them so quickly, hatchery said it could be up to 6 weeks to receive. We were still looking into coops when they arrived, so we panic bought one. It worked out well, it is a nice coop. Our chickens are now about a month old and are fully in the coop, as it is warm here (80+ daily). Our future plans are building a large run around the coop within the next month.
We jumped into this quick, but I have done a fair amount of research. I also have our neighbors to help, they have a pretty large flock.
