So one of my naughty silkies has been over indulging again and has had her second crop surgery. I've told her this is the last time as she is costing me lots of money, but I couldn't dispatch her and she is my best silkie (show quality etc)

I wondered what the aftercare was as for the life of me I can't remember what I did the first time around and also whether that was the right thing to do. First surgery was 9 months ago!!

Do you have tips on what to feed for the first couple of weeks after surgery? Its 2 days after and i'm giving her natural yoghurt and water at the moment. What should I move onto next? Would scrambled egg go down ok?

I'm taking preventative measures once she is better (fingers crossed) she will not be allowed out to free range anymore and will stay in the large enclosure I have for the chickens with the other Silkies. The enclosure is about 10m squared and they will just get some treats to take their mind off being kept in whilst the other chooks are free ranging.

You just answered my post and while I was looking for crop surgery instructions your post came up.

From what I have been frantically researching today is to keep the hen quiet and provide water for the first 12 hours. Then introduce soft foods like rice and chick starter that has been softened in water. Miss Prissy has really good information that she posted for someone who had a chicken with a sour/impacted crop. Maybe you could look her up.

I guess it's just plain mushy easy to digest food and maybe some vitamins so the chicken can heal well. No one mentioned antibiotics. Miss Prissy also said to feed small amounts many times a day so the crop can return to it's original size.

Hope this helps.
