Afternoon layer

my girls lay every morning - without fail - by 9:30 all 6 eggs are in the box... I wonder if they'll switch up on me at sometime though?

I do remember when they first started laying it was at all different times however - we'd have them at all hours

I dont know if yours just stared laying or not - if so, then maybe thats why - and when they start laying on a regular basis, they'll lay consistently?

Either way... congrats on getting eggs

I check for eggs when I get home from work, somewhere around 4:00. Many times there are still a couple of hens in the nest boxes then, and when I check later, I usually find more eggs.

We have been checking on the hens about 3-4 times a day for eggs. We get two here one there and sometimes none at all.

Recently I have someone (not sure which hen) that has been laying overnight on the roosts. The egg drops to the coop floor and breaks. I have been finding one first thing in the morning. It's a race to who can get to the broken egg first when I turn the light on. Luckly I have been getting them cleaned up before they can eat too much. I don't want them to start eating the eggs and finding out what is in those tasty treats. I hear that is a very hard thing (egg eating) to cure once they figure that out. True?

I would say mine lay more heavily in the morning than not. During the summer, whatever I collected after lunch (1pm or so) was all I ever got for the day. Now in the colder weather it seems it's more spread out throughout the day.

We only got 9 eggs today... Found the last one just after 5:45PM.

It is getting COLD. It's 53 degrees out there right now and sprinkling. In the coop there are a number of the hens that look like they enjoyed sitting in the rain today.
