Hi all. I have. 10-day old silkie bantam chick (sole survivor of 4) who is currently doing well under an Eco Glow 20 in an unused shower cubicle. I've just been informed that our electricity will be going off for a day for maintenance, one week from now. What can I do with the chick, with no heat lamp? I don't really want to spend money on a generator just for this, and my best other idea is somehow making use of the oil-fired Aga. If I popped the chick in a box on top of the Aga would it be ok? Has anyone done this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

That should be fine, if you can figure out how to prevent its getting too warm. At nearly 3 weeks she will not need much heat. You can wean them down to room temp faster than the typical rcommendation of 5 degrees F per week.

Great, thanks. How about a large-ish box part on the Aga and part on the shelf next to it so that the chick can find the place with the best temperature?
