Against the odds hatching thread (with pictures and questions)

Thank you! Yes, I have lots of plans for the roosters - chicken soup, roast chicken, chicken and rice... 😁 I grew up on a farm so I'm not too removed from the cycle of life. I've never done the actual slaughter myself, but I've watched countless times, and I've done everything post-slaughter myself (steaming, plucking, gutting, etc.)
Yum! :drool I don't mind eating them either. I hunt a lot, so I'm conditioned for stuff like that. I like knowing where my food comes from.

I’ve eaten way too many friends in my life... I feel like I might be getting soft now. But somebody’s gotta do it :(

Yeah. It's hard sometimes, but I feel no shame in culling a mean rooster. ;)
Thats what most chickens were made for though, eating. Actually, a different topic, but I wonder if there are more laying breed or meat birds. I'm guessing layers actually. There are a lot of birds bred for meat though, and lots of dual-purpose birds. Sorry, lol, off topic a bit.

I neve skipped turning, even with bad air cells. My current hatch rate on shipped eggs is 85% and that's mostly from infertiles. I would maybe let them sit for a day in there, and then turn on the turner. I would never do away with the first week of turning, it is so important. Do what you think is best, but I would plug it in now.
Hmmm good to know. The conflicting recommendations are confusing, but I think I’ll favor the good eggs and start turning tomorrow. At least the eggs are upright and the turner only tilts them by 30 degrees, so that’s not too bad for shipped eggs.

If anybody sees any other red flags, do let me know! I appreciate all input.

I think that's a good plan. I tried to read most of the first post, but I started to drift a little, and then I got an alert, lol. I'll read it over again and look here.

The best thing to do is write down what you've done in this hatch, like you are doing and adjust with future hatched if things don't go as good as you would like 👍.

Ok, I read it all. The only thing I can think of to add is your eggs look so pretty in there, and I want some of those breeds really bad now! :love
I think you're doing great so far, were always here for you along the way. :)
