Against the odds hatching thread (with pictures and questions)

I don't see a beak there. If you can figure out some definite anatomy you can work backwards from that. These are some malpositions to work with.

How is it looking in person now that you have a better look inside the egg? Does it seemed to have shallow breathing/distressed?

I would not take any more from the side. If you need more visibility use the top. You'll need to put it in a cup for stability now that so much shell has been removed. That's assuming you find the beak and it's still absorbing yolk.

I have see some assisted hatches where people remove quite a bit more shell. Then put the chick in a cup to "hatch" from after it's absorbed blood and yolk.

Getting it oxygen without nicking a blood vessel is really all you're trying to accomplish this morning. Then just give it time before taking on the next step.

I really can’t tell what’s what! It’s moving like it’s trying to get out. I have a dixie cup ready. How do I make the pip without hurting the chick? Fingers? The q-tip? The screw?

I made a hole where you indicated in the photo, and two more holes where I see pointy things... Might be feet though... Some blood on the q-tip, but no major bleeding... I just really can’t find that beak!!!

Bummer but hopefully that's enough for now and some oxygen will make it's way to the lower part of the egg for the chick. It's already getting way more of a chance than it would have gotten otherwise.

Are you going to leave it as is for now? Give it another go in a few more hours? Once it's absorbed more blood you'll have more leeway for poking around/finding the head with a qtip.

Plus the assisted hatch experts will be up and weighing in.
